outdoor ice pictures

:: first we had a little walk outside to gather up some supplies. it has been in the teens and below zero with the wind chill, so it was a brief walk. inside we gathered some cranberries, bowls, and jute cord. we selected our material and arranged it in the bowl then we slowly added water. we submerged the ends of the jute cord in the water to allow it to be hung. then put the bowls outside overnight. in the morning our ice pictures were frozen solid and ready to be hung. they are beautiful hung outside a window.

I loved coming across your blog tonight. We are a Waldorf inspired homeschooling family as well. I would like to link your site in my blog list if you don't mind. I will probably be visiting your site frequently. I am wanting to delve into more Waldorf but cannot afford any books currently so I seek out helpful info from other families like yours. You had some wonderful poems and verses on your blog. Those silk cocoons are beautiful...what could you do with them beyond nature study? I make handmade ceramic buttons and also live in an area with very large pine cones up to 8" tall. Here is a link to my etsy shop if you might be interested in a trade...even if it isn't for the silk. We love to barter.

how long are you guys on the island?
we are enjoying your adventures!!!

the silk cocoons are for nature study and natural play. these have been cut so that the moth can be released. you have some nice work. i would love to get my hands back in some mud. my kiln had only been fired 2 times before i found out i was pregnant with my oldest. i'll get back to it one day:) i have to explore more stuff on waldorf myself, we are only part-time homeschoolers. weekly rhythms, verses, stories, activities work well in our house but we are leaning more towards unschooling at home, as it works better for our little one and she unfortunately attend public kindergarten.
